Sunday morning I got up at 9:00 AM (I know, really early, right?). Mom told me Laura (my friend Bonnie's mom) had called. I'd begged my mom to let me go to Bonnie's horse show, and she finally agreed. I had to get ready to go in 20 min. Which would've been plenty of time, except of course I'd scratched my eye the other day putting in my contacts. So contacts = 15 minutes. I was like a blur for 7 minutes (Laura was a little late) but I got ready. She came and we drove to the horse show...
My left contact was driving me nuts. It was only minor irritation at first, but as we continued, I couldn't keep my eye open for 5 seconds before I experienced alarming pain and my eyelid closed tight. This went on for around 10 minutes before I took up Laura's offer to stop at Publix and get some eye drops. They didn't help, so in the end I just took out my left contact and threw it out. I could still see with my right eye, but it was uncomfortable.

Bonnie has a dark bay Welsh pony gelding named Tonka Wakan. He's the sweetest, most adorable, charming pony/horse ever. The entire barn where she boards him loves Tonka. It was a small horse show so the arena wasn't perfect. It had been raining on and off and the ground was muddy. Because of my contact ordeal, Laura and I missed Bonnie's first round (the show was all-jumping, ten bucks per round. Bonnie jumped twice.). Tonka was in good shape, but he hates flowers and had a couple refusals. (They jumped 18". Bonnie said she could've jumped him higher, but she had to pay for the entry fee herself and she didn't think it was worth it, especially since the ground was muddy and she didn't want Tonka Wanka to slip). Rounds and rounds... Then Kristy with the horse she rode, Ziggy, were up. Kristy and Ziggy's instructor had left for a while, so neither had had a lesson since May. For someone, Ziggy HATES little white horses, and there was one grazing on the other side of a fence near the jumping arena. He had many refusals and wasn't listening to Kristy (the lack of lessons hadn't helped). Later at lunch, Laura said Kristy probably heard the crowd telling her to urge him on. She must've gotten nervous, because she YANKED (hard!) on the reins and Ziggy reared. He sat down quickly, and if she hadn't rolled off, he would've sat on her and she would've broken her leg or been killed. As is, he rolled on her ankle. It started to swell, so her mother took her to the doctor to get an X-ray. Everyone was nervous, and guess who was RIGHT after that near-disastrous mistake? Yep, Bonnie and Tonka. We'd noticed Tonka was all eyes/ears while he Ziggy reared, dumped Kristy, then trotted to the other side of the arena. I was a little worried, but not much -- everyone knows Tonka loves Bonnie too much to do that to her, and Bonnie's too good of a rider to yank on the reins like that. Sure enough, they had a clear round and got a ribbon. The crowd clapped hard for Bonnie and Tonka, since even if they didn't know him, they thought he rocked (which, of course, he does). Tonka was the only pony there... He looked like a dwarf against the bigger horses!
Bonnie and I with a nice girl who rode there too (named Savannah) untacked Tonka and hosed him off. The hose was next to a pen of one goat, a couple pigs, and a miniature horse who looked just like Tonka! Tonka seemed very interested. It was like he was thinking, 'Hey! You're smaller than me!' And of course the strange fat pink-and-black horses (pigs) and the tall bristly horse (the goat) were so very strange... He didn't want to leave, but we got him over to the less-muddy grass and he munched contentedly while we waited for the others to get ready to go. The time came and we trailered him back to the barn, where we let him into his stall, fed him 2 sugar cubes, and gave him his good-job hay. Bonnie helped Savannah tack up Night, who's girth was missing and halter needed to be adjusted, and I hung out with Tonka. Afterwards Carl drove us back to the horse show and we watched the other riders jump the bigger fences (up to 3 ft.). Laura got us subs from Publix and we drove to their house where we ate and discussed the horse show.
End of joyful day. I had to go home and do my math+hmwk.. whoo.
Horse show = highlight of the week. x)
